Heavy Rain Continues in Northern Thailand; PM Orders Urgent Flood Relief in Nan, DDPM Urges At-Risk Communities to Prepare for Evacuation

On 19 August 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul instructed all relevant agencies to step up relief efforts to help flood-affected residents in Nan Province, ensure adequate support for people at evacuation centers, and mobilize personnel to reach areas cut off by flooding.

Deputy Interior Minister Jeseth Thaiseth said that continued heavy rainfall in northern Thailand has caused flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows in several areas. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM and other relevant agencies are working together to provide urgent assistance to affected communities.

The DDPM advised people in at-risk areas to closely follow official warnings. If an evacuation order is issued, residents should follow local evacuation plans and move immediately to designated safe areas. Valuables, electrical appliances, and important documents should be moved to higher ground, while essential supplies should be prepared. Special attention should be given to children, older persons, patients, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups, as well.

If floodwater reaches a home's electrical system, residents should switch off the main power supply. They should avoid touching electrical appliances while wet, stay away from fallen power lines, and avoid areas with strong currents.

People affected by flooding may request assistance via the DDPM safety hotline at 1784, available 24 hours a day.
