Thai Youths Showcase National Costume in Paris

Twelve Thai youths are showcasing Chud Thai Phra Ratchaniyom, Thailand’s national costume, in Paris ahead of their participation in an international peace conference at UNESCO on October 1. With support from the Department of Cultural Promotion under Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaised, the participants recently visited the Eiffel Tower wearing traditional Thai attire before presenting their visions on the UNESCO stage.

For the event, the youths received their national costumes made from Thai silk. The traditional outfits feature silk woven with a raised Luk Kaew (glass bead) pattern and Mudmee silk, using fabrics provided by The SUPPORT Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. Their appearance in Paris offered an opportunity to present Thai craftsmanship and cultural identity to an international audience.

Thailand is preparing for UNESCO’s consideration of Chud Thai: Knowledge, Craftsmanship, and Practices of the Thai National Costume for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Department of Cultural Promotion is overseeing work for the nomination.

The nomination is scheduled for consideration during the 21st Session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, to be held from November 30 to December 5, 2026, in Xiamen, China. The 12 youths expressed pride in representing Thailand and helping introduce Chud Thai and the cultural traditions surrounding the national costume to the international audience.
