State Visit of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand to the Lao People's Democratic Republic

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand will pay a State Visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) on 16 – 18 March 2026, at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao PDR, to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and close relations between the two nations.

This marks the first visit of the Thai monarch to the Lao PDR in 32 years, since Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother visited on 7–8 April 1994.

On 17 March 2026, Their Majesties will participate in the Official Welcoming Ceremony and meet with the President of the Lao PDR at the Presidential Palace, followed by audiences with the Prime Minister and His Excellency Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR and their spouses. In the evening, Their Majesties will attend a Blessing Ceremony and State Banquet hosted by the President.

During the visit, Their Majesties will visit the Huayxone – Huayxua Agricultural Development Service Center, pay homage at the Pha That Luang, and attend an exhibition of Lao silk and traditional textiles.

This State Visit comes as Thailand and the Lao PDR mark the 75th Anniversary of their Diplomatic Relations, and will serve to further deepen the enduring bonds between the two neighboring countries.
