Thailand will officially enter the summer season this Sunday February 22nd with temperatures expected to peak at up to 43 degrees Celsius in some areas.
The meteorological department warned that upper Thailand could experience summer storms during the seasonal transition period from February 23rd to the 25th while overall temperatures this year are forecast to be higher than last year. However, unstable weather is expected at the beginning of the season as cold air masses collide with rising heat triggering summer storms marked by thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail in some areas.
The 2026 summer season is expected to last until around mid-May.
The hottest period is forecast between mid-March and April when temperatures could climb to 42 to 43 degrees Celsius. Authorities identified three northern provinces as areas at risk of extreme heat with temperatures likely to exceed 42 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological department advised the public to take precautions during extreme heat, avoid prolonged outdoor activities between 10 AM and 7 PM due to high heat index levels and heat stroke risks and remain alert to fire hazards and wildfires during dry conditions.
