MHESI and BOI Join Forces to Advance Thailand’s Semiconductor Strategy Toward a High-Tech Economy

Thailand is strengthening its position in the global semiconductor landscape through a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and the Board of Investment (BOI). The initiative was highlighted at the Thailand Semiconductor Roadmap Co-Design Workshop, a key platform bringing together government agencies, industry players, academic institutions, and international partners to define the future direction of the country’s semiconductor industry.

MHESI emphasized an integrated approach that links education, research, innovation, and manufacturing, building on Thailand’s more than four decades of experience in the electrical and electronics industry. The strategy aims to move beyond assembly and testing toward higher value-added activities such as integrated circuit (IC) design, advanced packaging, and manufacturing-related technologies.

Three priority areas have been identified: IC design, power devices and sensor technologies, and advanced assembly, testing, and packaging. International cooperation is also a key pillar, particularly strategic collaboration with Arizona State University, which supports Thailand’s semiconductor roadmap in line with global standards while reflecting national strengths.

Human capital development remains at the core of the strategy. Thailand plans to develop more than 80,000 skilled professionals in semiconductors and advanced electronics within five years, including the establishment of a National Semiconductor Training Center to serve as shared infrastructure for high-skill workforce development.
