EGAT Supports MIT Global Forum, Reinforcing Thailand’s Leadership in ASEAN Energy Transition

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) reaffirmed Thailand’s role as a key energy player in Southeast Asia by supporting the international academic conference “Powering Southeast Asia through 2050: Building a Sustainable and Energy-Resilient ASEAN,” hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The forum provided a platform for strategic dialogue on energy, climate, and sustainability, while strengthening collaboration with global networks and highlighting Thailand’s potential on the international energy stage.

The conference brought together representatives from governments, industry, academia, and non-profit organizations across Southeast Asia and beyond to exchange perspectives on long-term energy development, future power system trends, and climate-related challenges. EGAT shared its strategic approach to ensuring power system reliability amid the growing share of renewable energy, emphasizing grid flexibility, advanced forecasting systems, energy storage solutions, and the development of next-generation clean energy technologies such as hydrogen and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to support regional decarbonization  goals.

EGAT also emphasized the importance of an inclusive energy transition under the principle of “leaving no one behind,” recognizing disparities in electricity access across parts of Southeast Asia. Alongside policy dialogue, EGAT showcased its energy innovations under the theme “Innovate Power Solutions for a Better Life,” presenting Thailand’s concrete progress in grid modernization, floating solar power, low-carbon power technologies, and comprehensive decarbonization solutions, reinforcing the country’s commitment to a sustainable and resilient energy future for ASEAN.
