H.R.H. Princess Sirivannavari Visits Bangkok National Museum

Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya visited the Bangkok National Museum on 15 August 2026 to view ancient artifacts and observe restoration work.

The visit began with Her Royal Highness paying homage to the Phra Buddha Sihing image at the Buddhaisawan Chapel. The Princess then viewed mural paintings, created in the reign of King Rama I, which depict the life of the Buddha. The murals demonstrate the development of traditional Thai mural art, and they were subsequently restored.

Her Royal Highness proceeded to the Maha Surasinghanat Building to pay homage to a carved stone statue of Ganesha from Candi Singhasari (Central Java), Indonesia, which the Dutch government presented to King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) during his second royal visit to Java.

The Princess also viewed significant antiquities from the Srivijaya period, such as a bronze torso of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, which was discovered in Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province, a bronze Buddha image in the attitude of subduing Mara, also from Surat Thani, and a four-armed statue of the god Vishnu discovered in Takua Pa District, Phang-nga Province.

On the second floor of the Maha Surasinghanat Building, Her Royal Highness viewed artifacts from the Lopburi period, including a 1,000-year-old gilded bronze sculpture believed to depict an ancient monarch, as well as the largest bronze statue of a deity ever discovered in Non Sung District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

Afterward Her Royal Highness visited Issaravinitchai Royal Hall to view the “Exquisite Siamese Textiles: A Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother” exhibition, showcasing ancient court textiles alongside fabrics from various ethnic groups. The Princess also visited the Royal Chariot Hall to observe the renovation of the Great Victory Chariot (Phra Maha Phichai Ratcharot) and the Phra Wechayanta Royal Chariot (Wechayanta Ratcharot).
