MMHESI to Upgrade Coastal Fisheries Through Research and Innovation

Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), visited coastal communities in Songkhla to monitor projects aimed at strengthening local fisheries and improving the livelihoods of coastal residents. The visit highlighted the government’s commitment to using science, technology, research, and innovation to address real community challenges and create sustainable economic growth.

A key initiative involves applying modern technologies, including sensor-based weather forecasting systems and real-time water-level monitoring networks, to support disaster preparedness and early warning mechanisms for coastal communities. These technologies are expected to help local fishermen better manage risks from extreme weather conditions while improving safety and productivity in the fisheries sector.

The project also promotes community-based fisheries management, marine resource conservation, and the development of value-added products from local resources. By integrating research and innovation with local knowledge, MHESI aims to enhance incomes, strengthen coastal economies, and create new growth opportunities for southern Thailand through sustainable development.
