PRD Empowers Thai Youth Network in Japan, Connecting Thainess to the World
Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department (PRD), led a delegation in further strengthening collaboration with Thai youth in Japan, creating opportunities for the younger generation to take part in creating and sharing stories that reflect Thainess and connect Thailand with the world. The initiative was held during the delegation’s visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 17–19 September 2026. It forms part of PRD’s efforts to advance media networks in line with the policy of Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, who places importance on youth participation in government communication to foster awareness, understanding, and positive relations from the individual to the national level.
PRD organized the “Thai Youth Media Network in Japan: Connecting Thai Stories to the World” event, providing a platform for Thai students and young people studying and living in Japan, including members of the Thai Students’ Association in Japan (TSAJ) and other Thai youth with diverse knowledge, interests, and experiences. The event introduced opportunities for young people to contribute to PRD’s media content and connect with media networks in Japan. Dr. Dhanakorn Srisookhsai, Manager of the Thai Media Fund, also joined the event to exchange views with the participants and support opportunities for young people in communication and media.
The PRD Director-General said that Thai youth in Japan possess the knowledge, abilities, and potential to become part of PRD’s network of young communicators. They can play an important role in sharing meaningful stories and promoting friendly relations between Thailand and Japan. She encouraged the young participants to use their potential to inspire others and serve as positive role models for Thai youth, while developing media literacy and maintaining resilience in receiving and using media appropriately.
Previously, PRD had provided opportunities for Thai youth in Japan to participate in media production. The works of Ms. Chutimon Suetosak and Mr. Chantit Asarassakorn demonstrate how the perspectives and experiences of the younger generation can be shared through PRD’s media platforms. Their work was also presented to NHK representatives, followed by discussions on opportunities for Thai youth to participate in NHK’s media-related activities in the future.
The event also demonstrated PRD’s efforts to provide Thai youth in Japan with opportunities to contribute to communication content for PRD’s English-language media platforms, including NBT World and the SAWASDEE Thailand website (THAILAND.GO.TH). In particular, the “Thainess Beyond Borders” column provides a platform for young people to share their stories, experiences, and perspectives of living abroad with audiences in Thailand and around the world.
The Manager of the Thai Media Fund expressed readiness to support PRD in expanding communication opportunities for young people. He also emphasized the importance of encouraging the younger generation to play an active role in creating media, developing media literacy, and using media creatively and responsibly.
The Thai Youth Media Network in Japan initiative marks another step in building on existing achievements and collaboration, while expanding PRD’s network of Thai youth overseas. It creates sustained opportunities for the younger generation to engage with PRD, share stories about Thailand through their own perspectives, and contribute to strengthening the close and friendly relations between Thailand and Japan.
