TAT Promotes Domestic Travel Through UNESCO Creative Cities Thailand Routes in 2026

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is advancing domestic tourism promotion through the UNESCO Creative Cities Thailand routes, encouraging travelers to explore destinations shaped by creativity, local wisdom, and cultural identity. The initiative covers nine UNESCO Creative Cities in Thailand, with one additional city under consideration, and will be rolled out through pilot activities in three provinces to stimulate travel and local spending in a tangible way.

According to Mr. Apichai Chatchalermkit (นายอภิชัย ฉัตรเฉลิมกิจ), TAT Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing, promoting travel along UNESCO Creative Cities routes is a key domestic strategy for 2026. The campaign invites tourists to experience nature and cultural wisdom (Moment of Miracle), create meaningful travel memories (Moment of Memories), and engage in journeys that generate value for individuals, communities, and the environment (Moment of Giving).

TAT Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing noted that UNESCO Creative Cities provide platforms to transform cultural capital, creativity, and local knowledge into meaningful tourism experiences. The initiative aligns with TAT’s sustainable tourism policy and the “Value is the New Volume” approach, focusing on quality travelers while supporting income distribution to local communities.

For 2026, TAT will organise pilot tourism activities in three provinces: Sukhothai (สุโขทัย), Suphan Buri(สุพรรณบุรี), and Phetchaburi(เพชร. Activities will begin in Sukhothai from 30 January to February 2026, followed by events in Suphan Buri from 1–3 May 2026 and in Phetchaburi from 22–24 May 2026, showcasing each city’s distinctive creative identity.

The UNESCO Creative Cities Thailand initiative reflects Thailand’s approach to leveraging creativity and local identity to drive sustainable cultural tourism and reinforce its international profile.
