Thailand is strengthening education reform through closer cooperation with UNESCO, with a focus on delivering practical outcomes for teachers, learners, and the national workforce, while enhancing the country’s role in global education and AI policy. The move follows Thailand’s election to UNESCO’s Executive Board for the 2025–2029 term.
The Ministry of Education and UNESCO have expanded collaboration to align Thailand’s education system with the digital era and sustainable development. Key initiatives include empowering teachers, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) skills into curricula, and advancing Greening Education through AI teacher training, curriculum integration, and the Green TVET Roadmap for vocational education.
The partnership extends beyond schools to workforce development, with more than 400 vocational institutions involved in embedding green skills and leadership to prepare Thailand’s workforce for the green economy and future industries.
These efforts build on Thailand’s growing international role, following its hosting of the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI in 2025, which strengthened the country’s profile in global policy dialogue. At the same time, Thailand is expanding the concept of lifelong learning at the local level following the designation of three additional cities—Rayong (ระยอง), Satun(สะตูล), and Tak(ตาก)—as members of UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities.
There are plans to further extend Greening Education initiatives to the city level, aiming to create diverse learning models and enhance the quality of life for local communities, along with proposals to organize activities and competitions focused on green education to stimulate innovation and broader social participation.
Overall, the Thailand–UNESCO partnership serves as a concretemechanism to improve education quality and workforce readiness, while
positioning Thailand as an active contributor to global education, technology, and AI governance.
