Thailand Advances Transnational Education through Collaboration with UK Leading University

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, has engaged in policy and academic discussions to advance cooperation in Transnational Education. The dialogue focused on strengthening internationalisation of Thailand’s higher education system and enhancing the country’s capacity to develop globally competitive human capital.

The discussions highlighted key models of Transnational Education, particularly the “Flying Faculty” approach, which enables academic staff from the awarding institution to participate directly in teaching, curriculum development, academic supervision, and quality assurance. This model reflects international best practices and aligns with Thailand’s strategic direction to elevate higher education standards and expand access to internationally recognised programmes within the country.

Queen Mary University of London shared its experience in delivering Transnational Education initiatives in the People’s Republic of China, encompassing joint curricula, collaborative teaching across multiple disciplines,
and the establishment of joint institutes under host-country regulatory frameworks. These experiences provided valuable insights for adapting international models to the Thai context. The discussions also addressed Thailand’s regulatory framework for cross-border education, demonstrating the country’s readiness to serve as a regional hub for international higher education through sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.
