Thailand and Laos Strengthen Police Cooperation Against Transnational Crime

Thailand and Laos have strengthened police cooperation to address transnational crime and enhance public safety at the 9th Thailand–Laos Joint Committee Meeting on Police Cooperation, held in Rayong from September 8 to 11, 2026.

​Royal Thai Police Assistant Commissioner-General Pol. Lt. Gen. Ittipol Ittisarnronnachai led the Thai delegation and co-chaired the meeting with Brig. Gen. Vanthong Soulisack, Deputy Director-General of the General Police Department under the Lao Ministry of Public Security.

​The two sides exchanged information and reviewed cooperation on narcotics and precursor chemicals, human trafficking, illegal border crossings, cross-border fugitives, wildlife and natural resource trafficking, serious crime, and cybercrime, particularly online scams and technology-related fraud.

​Both countries agreed that increasingly complex cross-border crime requires faster and more effective coordination. They emphasized information sharing, joint investigations, fugitive tracking, and capacity building through training and operational exchanges.

Officials also agreed to strengthen existing cooperation mechanisms to improve coordination among relevant agencies. These efforts aim to support public safety and facilitate secure travel, tourism, trade, and daily activities between Thailand and Laos.

Thailand hosted the ninth meeting, while Laos will host the next session to continue advancing bilateral law enforcement cooperation and responses to evolving transnational crime.
