Urgent Directive Ordering 17 Northern Provinces of Thailand to Prepare for Potential Flooding

Deputy Prime Minister and Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat issued an urgent directive on August 21, ordering governors of 17 northern provinces to prepare for potential flooding and ensure personnel and resources are ready for immediate deployment.

The provinces include Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Lamphun, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Phetchabun, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Sawan, and Uthai Thani.

Under the directive, provinces must prepare across all areas of flood prevention, response, and relief, with the protection of lives, property, and public safety given top priority. Governors were instructed to coordinate government agencies, military units, police, and local administrative organizations.

In the event of severe flooding, officials and emergency personnel must remain in affected areas around the clock to assist residents and manage the situation. Operations are to continue until flood conditions ease and authorities have brought the situation under control.
